FRANKLIN GROVE — The fifth annual Rooney’s BBQ Cook Off will be held Sept. 19 at Rooney’s in Franklin Grove, with proceeds benefiting the AFC FFA Alumni and Supporters. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with judging beginning at 5 p.m. John Lauer, owner of Rooney’s, said the event brings together barbecue cooks while raising money for local agriculture students.
“Oh yeah, there’s going to be some raffles going on. There was a beef bundle, pork bundle, lamb bundle, all gonna be raffled off,” Lauer said. “And then, of course, the Luke Bryan tickets that are good friends at the Coyote, donated. So we’re real excited about that as well.”
Raffles will also include a half hog, while FFA and 4-H students will have pulled pork available. A few spots remain for cooks, and interested participants can call 815-456-2590 for information and registration. The event is open to the public.
