SYCMORE – The DeKalb County History Center will host a genealogy workshop at noon Oct. 3 to help residents explore local resources and learn more about their family history. Cathy Fawcett, a History Center genealogy researcher, will introduce participants to the center’s research collections and demonstrate how archival materials can help answer questions about DeKalb County’s past. The Joiner History Room collection includes photographs, newspapers, maps, school records, city directories, birth records, yearbooks, wills and obituaries. The workshop will also cover how to begin a research project, locate information in local records and use the archives alongside online genealogy resources. The program is open to researchers of all experience levels and costs $5 per person. The class is limited to 20 people, and registration is required. The DeKalb County History Center is located at 1730 N. Main St. in Sycamore.
