Genoa Corn Dryer Fire Extinguished Without Injuries

GENOA – A corn dryer caught fire Tuesday around 10 a.m. in downtown Genoa at Sycamore and Railroad streets, prompting responses from Genoa-Kingston, Hampshire, Sycamore, and DeKalb fire departments. Crews released corn from the dryer and used three unmanned water master stream devices to spray from multiple sides while keeping firefighters out of the potential collapse zone. Damage to the structure was noted due to heat, but the fire was fully extinguished by 12:30 p.m., and cleanup continued until 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.
