Illinois Encourages Earthquake Preparedness During Great ShakeOut

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is encouraging residents to take part in the Great ShakeOut today, a nationwide earthquake drill promoting safety and preparedness. Participants are urged to practice the “drop, cover, and hold on” method, or “lock, cover, and hold on” for those using mobility devices. Illinois lies on the New Madrid and Wabash Valley seismic zones, making awareness and preparation key. Details are available at shakeout.org and ready.illinois.gov.
