SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has introduced an automated system to notify hunters of chronic wasting disease test results for the 2025-26 deer season. The program covers 25 counties in northern and west-central Illinois, including Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb, where hunters can have deer tested at check stations, drop-off sites, or participating vendors. Hunters who provide a mobile number and email linked to their ExploreMoreIL account will receive test results by text or email, with follow-up messages for positive cases. IDNR reported 539 CWD-positive deer statewide between July 2024 and June 2025, with ongoing monitoring across northern Illinois counties.
