Fire Contained at Marquis Energy Facility in Hennepin

HENNEPIN — Fire crews from several departments responded Wednesday to a large blaze at the Marquis Energy property in Hennepin that was contained after several hours. The fire began around 11 a.m. in a central maintenance building, a former steel mill structure on the property, prompting a fifth alarm that brought mutual aid from as far as Sublette, Compton, and Dixon Rural and City fire departments. Officials said all personnel were safe except for one person who suffered a minor injury. Thick black smoke was visible for miles, but corn deliveries and ethanol production at Marquis Energy were not affected since the fire did not occur at the ethanol plant. Roads near the site were closed to allow emergency vehicles access, and the mutual aid box alarm was struck out around 3 p.m. (Photo KWQC TV)
