ROCHELLE — The Flagg Township Museum will host a program on the Women’s Ambulance Safety Patrol on May 24th at 1 p.m., highlighting the history of the organization founded in 1940 in Rockford and its role in local communities.
Director Jan Devore said, “We have a presenter, Mary Rose, who has done extensive research into the WASP safety patrol organization that actually started in 1940 in Rockford and had one very active group in DeKalb. She’s going to tell us the history behind this organization. It’s something that we really don’t know a whole lot about, so we’re anxious to hear about it, and it kind of links with Memorial Day.”
Officials said the program will explore the group’s impact and local connections, including ties to Rochelle.
