Rochelle Awards Downtown Underground Installation Contract to Lowest Bidder

ROCHELLE — The City of Rochelle has awarded the Downtown Underground Conversion project contract to Helm Electric, the lowest of three bidders, at a cost of $895,014.79. Helm’s bid came in below the engineer’s estimate of $1.18 million and included no exceptions or price changes. While the city has not worked with the company before, references were positive and the firm is in good standing. The City Council also approved 15% contingency for any unexpected costs during construction. Funding will come from downtown bonds and the Electric Fund.
