Raoul Reaches $8.4 Million Settlement With Alternative Energy Supplier

CHICAGO  — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced an $8.4 million settlement with Clearview Electric Inc., resolving allegations the company misled consumers into paying more for electricity than with their default utility. The agreement provides restitution to eligible customers and permanently bans Clearview from marketing or selling electricity and gas in Illinois. Raoul’s office accused the company of violating state consumer protection laws by enrolling customers without authorization and charging higher rates. Since taking office, Raoul has recovered more than $25 million from alternative suppliers through litigation tied to deceptive business practices.
