DIXON — Several schools in north central Illinois are among 108 recipients of the Illinois Biodiversity Field Trip Grant Program announced Monday by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The program awarded more than $101,000 to support outdoor learning. Madison Elementary School in Dixon received $1,000 for fourth grade students to visit Byron Forest Preserve in Ogle County. Franzen Intermediate School in Itasca received $1,500 for fifth grade students to visit Stronghold Center in Oregon. The funding covers transportation and substitute teachers through the Illinois Conservation Foundation. The program has served more than 146,000 students since 2001.
