MENDOTA – A new queen and court have been announced Friday night at the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival. Hundreds gathered in anticipation as nine candidates answered questions and shared their future plans on stage to the crowd and the judges. Crystal Garcia was crowned by outgoing 2024 Sweet Corn Festival Queen Maddie Becker. Selected as Miss Congenialty was Makenzie Bean. Crystal is the daughter of Angelica Garcia and Rafael Garcia. The 2025 Mendota High School graduate, excelled in academics and athletics, playing basketball and soccer all four years, earning girls soccer player of the year, serving in multiple leadership roles, and graduating with honors and a seal of biliteracy in Spanish. She plans to attend Rock Valley College this fall to study to become a CRNA while playing soccer as a Golden Eagle. She will be joined by attendants Lauren Holland and Ella Martin at events throughout the weekend in Mendota and for the next year representing the city.
