BYRON — An Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to check on an SUV parked at a closed business around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of South Union Street in Byron when the vehicle fled, allegedly running a traffic signal and leading deputies west on Illinois Route 72 before being disabled east of Leaf River. A 31 year old man was arrested on multiple felony charges including aggravated fleeing to elude a police officer, drug possession, and violation of bail bond conditions, along with several traffic citations, and was later identified as Zachary J. Popp of Leaf River. A 30 year old woman was arrested on two active Ogle County warrants for battery and driving under the combined influence of alcohol or other drugs with no bond and was later identified as Samantha R. Norup of Leaf River. Both were taken to the Ogle County Jail where they await a pre-trial release hearing.
