ROCKFORD – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced a long-term household hazardous waste collection site in Rockford, available to residents year-round. Located at Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, 3315 Kishwaukee, the facility accepts items such as chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, motor oil, gasoline, pesticides, and fluorescent lamps. Latex paint, explosives, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals, and business waste are not accepted. Residents are advised to transport items safely in sealed containers and remain in their vehicles during drop-off. The site is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. A full list of accepted materials and collection guidelines is available on the Illinois EPA website.
