Illinois Disputes Federal Findings On Commercial Driver Licenses

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Secretary of State’s office said it rejects federal claims about how the state issued non domiciled commercial driver licenses and said its policies follow federal standards. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation reported nearly one in five such licenses in Illinois were issued illegally and ordered the state to correct the problem and revoke improper licenses. The agency notified J.B. Pritzker and state officials that failure to comply could cost Illinois 128 million dollars in federal highway funds. Administrator Derek Barrs said the state must meet federal rules to avoid the funding loss.
