ICC Reduces Ameren and ComEd Rate Reconciliation Requests After Performance Review

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Commerce Commission struck $11.2 million from Ameren Illinois’ $59.6 million multi-year rate reconciliation request and $25.4 million from ComEd’s $268.5 million 2024 request following the first performance-based evaluations of the utilities’ grid and rate plans. The decisions require both companies to provide updated affordability data and cost-benefit analyses in future filings to allow the ICC to review grid plan impacts in real time. The ComEd ruling removed overrun costs and performance incentives tied to a mismanaged customer care and billing rollout. The impact on individual customers will vary by service class and usage, with ComEd customers also benefiting from an $803 million rebate and a low-income discount program beginning in January. The ICC oversees Illinois utilities to ensure reliable and safe service at reasonable costs while evaluating performance under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act.
