Flagg-Rochelle Park Board Thanks Seasonal Staff; Announces Band Shell Improvements

ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board met Monday at the REC Center and shared more details about the possible OSLAD grant they will apply for to get upgrades to Tilton Memorial Park. The plan includes new batting cages, playground equipment, fitness stations, turf and field upgrades, lighting, concession stand improvements, and parking lot paving. The grant would provide a 50-50 match of up to $1 million, with the state expected to announce awards in spring 2026.

Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger thanked seasonal staff, Focus House, the FFA, and the Key Club for their recent volunteer work across district parks. She reported ongoing improvements at the band shell following the Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival, including concrete repairs, caulking, painting, lighting replacements, and plans to replace older benches with a smaller seating area to create more open space.Staff updates included work on park facility inspections and preparations for winterization, as well as expanded safety training under the district’s insurance program. Recreation Director Maureen Stevens announced in a  note to the board about upcoming community events at the REC Center, including a Pumpkin Plunge on Oct. 10, a dive-in movie featuring Moana on Nov. 21, and monthly Life Lessons 101 programs.
