DeKalb Holds Hearing On Vacating Challenger Drive

DEKALB – The DeKalb City Council held a public hearing last week on a proposal to vacate about 1.365 acres of the Challenger Drive right of way to allow for the future expansion of the Nehring Electric facility at 1085 N. Peace Road. Challenger Drive was established as a public roadway in 1997 but has primarily served as a driveway to the industrial site. Nehring Electric has acquired a 32 acre parcel north of the road and plans to eventually expand its facility northward while maintaining its existing access from Peace Road. The city says vacating the section of Challenger Drive will support continued industrial development and manufacturing employment. The council chose to bypass the second read approve vacating the right of way.
