DEKALB — The DeKalb Community Unit School District 428 Board of Education has selected Billy Hueramo as the finalist for superintendent following a national search, with the appointment contingent on contract negotiations and formal board approval expected at a special meeting on January 5, 2026. Hueramo currently serves as the district’s director of teaching and learning for prekindergarten through fifth grade and was chosen from a field of more than 25 applicants after multiple rounds of interviews involving district staff and community members. He began his career in the district in 2007 as a student teacher and later served as an English as a Second Language teacher, assistant principal, principal and elementary curriculum coordinator before moving into his current role in 2022, and he is also a United States Marine Corps veteran who served from 2000 to 2008. If approved, Hueramo will assume the superintendent position on July 1, 2026, while current Superintendent Minerva Garcia Sanchez will remain in the role through the end of her contract on June 30, 2026.
