Byron Presents 2025-26 Budget

BYRON – The City of Byron on Wednesday night presented the budget for the next fiscal year. It will be $11.5 million total, including $3.9 million for public works and $1.1 million for the police department. They also discussed borrowing funds from the Water Pollution Control Loan Program, allowing Byron to apply to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for up to a maximum $30 million in funds for the upcoming construction at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

There will be a deficit in the general fund of $2.5 million, but if you take into account items that are already paid for, they will end up with a $12,000 surplus, which City Manager Brian Brooks noted was effectively a balanced budget.

“Yeah, the city is in pretty good financial shape right now. I like the fact that we’ve got a good balanced budget in both our general fund and in water and sewer, meaning that we are keeping within our means and being good stewards of the public’s money,” he said.
