Bridge Weight Limit, Lane Closure Set on I-39 Near Rockford

ROCKFORD  — A 20-ton weight limit and right-lane closure have been placed on the northbound Interstate 39 bridge over the Kishwaukee River near Rockford after a recent inspection found structural problems. The restrictions affect the stretch just north of the Baxter Road exit, with vehicles over 20 tons required to detour at the Illinois 72 interchange using Illinois 72 west, Illinois 251 north, and Bypass U.S. 20 east to rejoin I-39.
