(Hammond, IN) — The proposed Bears stadium location in Hammond, Indiana may have some environmental issues. Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia, who supports the planned sports venue in the northwest suburb in Illinois, is leery about the site in Northwest Indiana. He says the land by Wolf Lake is contaminated.
In the past, Northwest Indiana residents sought to get the site cleaned up. The result was a golf course build on top of a mountain of slag, which is a rocky waste product from steel production. The location is also close to several hazardous waste sites.
