Area Law Enforcement Urge Sober Driving During Holiday Enforcement Period

ROCHELLE — The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation to increase enforcement and remind motorists about the dangers of impaired driving during the holiday season. Through January 2nd, law enforcement agencies statewide are conducting high visibility traffic enforcement as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Officials say alcohol related crashes kill more than 10,000 people each year nationwide.

Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said you should make transportation plans in advance

“ Everybody should plan ahead. If you’re gonna plan on consuming some alcoholic beverages, have a plan how you’re gonna get home, obviously don’t do that yourself. And, call an Uber, call for a friend, a family member, and just make sure you plan ahead,” he said.

Authorities are urging drivers to report suspected impaired drivers, preventing friends from driving while impaired, and always wearing a seat belt. The enforcement effort is administered by IDOT using federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
