SYCAMORE – The DeKalb County Community Foundation has announced the creation of the DeKalb Festival Chorus Endowment Fund, established by Amanda Durik and David Castro to provide long term financial support for the chorus while honoring the memory of Mary Rowley and George Durik. Amanda Durik said her parents found joy in everyday music through humming and whistling even without formal training, and she said those moments brought comfort and connection in their home. The DeKalb Festival Chorus, founded in the mid 1970s, brings community members together to share in choral music, and the new endowed fund is intended to help sustain its mission and future programs. Community Foundation Executive Director Dan Templin said the fund will provide steady support for an organization whose funding can often be unpredictable, and donations can be made through the foundation’s website or by mail to its Sycamore office.
