Fall Covers for Spring Savings Program Returns in December

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Agriculture will reopen its Fall Covers for Spring Savings Program with pre enrollment starting December 3 and applications accepted December 15 through January 15. The program offers up to five dollars per acre in crop insurance discounts for acres planted in cover crops this fall and an insurable crop in 2026, with 190000 acres available on a first come first served basis. Producers must certify cover crops with the Farm Service Agency and provide required insurance and FSA documents before applying.
