Raoul Urges FCC To Strengthen Rules Against Illegal Robocalls

CHICAGO – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and a bipartisan coalition of 49 attorneys general are urging the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen rules requiring phone companies to vet the providers that route calls through their networks. The attorneys general want stricter monitoring of upstream providers, stronger caller ID protections and penalties for companies that fail to follow the rules. They also want phone companies to keep records of provider verification and monitoring for use by law enforcement. The coalition said Americans received more than 29.6 billion scam robocalls and texts last year and lost nearly $2 billion to the scams.
