DeKalb Council Approves ComEd Substation Agreement

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council approved agreements Monday for Commonwealth Edison to annex and develop 160 acres at the northeast corner of Keslinger Road and Crego Road for a new transmission substation. The project is part of ComEd’s Kishwaukee Area Reliability project and will include a 345 kilovolt transmission line, stormwater detention and staging areas to support the regional power grid. The council waived the second reading and approved the ordinance.  A public hearing also was held on the proposed annexation. Under Illinois law, an Illinois Commerce Commission certificate for the project supersedes local zoning requirements, so rezoning is not required after annexation.
