ROCHELLE — The Flagg Rochelle Community Park District and Rochelle Township High School are discussing a partnership to develop a new indoor recreation facility that would serve students, local organizations and the community. Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said the idea grew out of several years of strategic planning, community surveys and public meetings that repeatedly identified a need for additional indoor recreation space. The proposed facility would be located near the former high school athletic complex across from the Rochelle Recreation Center and would feature a large open area designed to support a variety of sports, programs and community events. The Park District plans to seek proposals from design build firms later this summer to help determine the project’s size, design and cost. Ohlinger said the project would not require a referendum or a tax increase and would instead rely on existing funding sources and partnerships. If planning continues to move forward, construction could begin as early as April 2027.
