Severe Weather Threat Targets Northern Illinois Today

ROCHELLE — Northern Illinois is expected to see severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with damaging winds and a chance of tornadoes as a fast moving system crosses the region. Storms could move as fast as 60 to 65 miles per hour.

National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Friedlein said, “there probably will be some in Northern Illinois this afternoon and early evening. Quick moving thunderstorms are expected with the main hazard being damaging winds, but there’s a decent potential that there’ll probably be a few tornadoes in the northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin area that we’ll be keeping an eye on.”
