OREGON – A Rochelle man allegedly fled a traffic stop late Sunday night and drove himself to the Ogle County Jail before being taken into custody, according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies stopped a vehicle around 10:45 PM in the 2000 block of North Illinois Route 2 for a lane violation and arrested the passenger, a 45-year-old Rochelle man, on an active warrant for failure to appear. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Rueben C Burgess of Rochelle, allegedly fled the stop after deputies attempted to detain him and the vehicle tires were deflated. The vehicle continued into Oregon, traveled west on West Washington Street, then turned into the parking lot of the Ogle County Jail and stopped. Burgess was arrested on multiple charges including driving while license suspended, possession of a controlled substance, possession of hypodermic needles, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstructing identification, resisting or obstructing a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, and two active Ogle County warrants. He was also cited for several traffic and ordinance violations. Burgess was released on a notice to appear with a future court date.
