Rochelle Council Approves New Insurance Program with Cost Savings

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council on Monday approved a new 2025 to 2026 insurance program with the Illinois Municipal League Risk Management Association, shifting coverage from two previous providers and cutting the city’s annual premium by 14 percent to $1,011,323. The package includes cyber coverage, power generation assets, workers compensation, and a risk sharing option that sets a minimum premium of $877,347 and a maximum of $1,193,546, with potential savings of $273,684 based on recent claims history. Rochelle Human Resources Risk and Safety Coordinator Brittney Zick noted the agreement establishes a loss reserve of at least $316,200, adds a self insured retention fund, provides for excess insurance and reinsurance, and requires regular claims reviews, which city officials say will help manage costs, improve cash flow, and maintain oversight of claims management.
