Oregon Considers New Downtown Economic Development Position Funded By Gaming Revenue

OREGON — City officials are reviewing a proposal to create a full time downtown economic development position funded primarily through existing revenue as part of an effort to support business growth and downtown revitalization.

Earlier this week Oregon City Manager Darin DeHaan said they would use revenue generated by gaming to fund the program.

“If the council moves forward with this, it would come outta economic development fund. We would move the entire gaming income into economic development. I’m projecting for fiscal year 2027, $240,000 in gaming.

The position would start with a salary of about $53,000 and total compensation of about $66,250 with benefits, along with funding for events, facade grants, and downtown beautification projects. Officials said the role would replace some functions previously handled through the now inactive Chamber of Commerce and contracted economic development services and would focus on business support, promotion, and coordination of downtown activities.
