Man Charged After Deputy Involved Shooting In Rockford

ROCKFORD —  A man is charged following a deputy involved shooting in Rockford.  Authorities say the incident happened yesterday at Harrison Avenue and Kishwaukee Street while the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a narcotics investigation.  Stephon Haley was in his car when he pointed a handgun at one of the detectives.  The detective fired one shot at Haley, not hitting him.  The suspect then drove his car into one of the Sheriff’s Office’s vehicles before fleeing the area.  He was later found hiding in a drainage pipe near Sawyer Road and Saner Avenue.  Haley faces aggravated assault and drug charges.
