SPRINGFIELD – The 2025 to 2026 Illinois bobcat season ended Feb. 15 with 627 bobcats harvested by hunters and trappers across the state. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reported 405 bobcats were taken by hunting and 222 by trapping, while 27 were salvaged by permit holders from incidents such as roadkill. The state issued 2,000 permits for the season from about 9,700 lottery applicants. Jefferson County reported the most harvests with 33 bobcats, followed by Macoupin County with 28.
