ROCHELLE — State transportation engineers outlined the proposal to replace the intersection of Illinois 64 and Illinois 251 Tuesday night with a single‑lane roundabout citing a history of high‑severity right‑angle crashes.
Andrew Schlichting, P.E., senior transportation engineer with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, said “We understand that people have concerns about roundabouts being unnecessary or confusing, but their potential for saving lives is just too significant to ignore.”
Construction is funded and expected to be awarded in late 2026 with work likely in 2027.
