DEKALB – The DeKalb County Health Department confirmed the first case of measles in DeKalb County in 2026 through laboratory testing and is investigating possible exposures. Health officials said potential exposure sites include Walmart on Sycamore Road in DeKalb on March 2 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and the post office on East Lincoln Highway in DeKalb on March 9 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Staff are contacting people who may have been exposed. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can be prevented with the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. Health officials said two doses of the vaccine are about 97 percent effective. People who may have been exposed and are not fully vaccinated should watch for symptoms for 21 days, including rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red watery eyes.
