Workers Hospitalized After Chemical Exposure At Byron Nuclear Plant

BYRON — Several workers were taken to area hospitals Tuesday evening after a reported chemical exposure at the Byron Nuclear Generating Station. The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened about 5:03 p.m. during outage work activities at the plant. Multiple ambulances responded and transported the affected employees for evaluation and treatment. Authorities said all reported injuries are believed to be minor. Officials said the incident was related to internal work activities and not to the operational functions of the nuclear plant, and there is no threat to the public. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said the incident remains under investigation and additional information will be released by Constellation Energy.
