DeKalb City Council Approves Purchase Of Two Fire Department Vehicles

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council on Monday approved the purchase of two 2026 Chevrolet Tahoes for the DeKalb Fire Department at a cost not to exceed $118,208. One vehicle will replace a 2014 Ford Explorer used for daily responses, while the second will be added to support command staff during emergencies.

City Manager Bill Nicklas said the added vehicle will help officers respond to incidents more efficiently. “This helps get the officers who are most in charge of coordinating events at the scene the ability not to have to jump into the same vehicle,” Nicklas said.

The purchase will be made through Miles Chevrolet using state purchasing contracts and includes a $3,000 trade in credit for the older vehicle. Funding will come from the Ground Emergency Medical Transportation budget.
