Cubs Shut Out The Orioles 1-0, Honor All-Star Ryne Sandberg

Rookie Cade Horton and 4 relief pitchers combine on a 3-hit shutout as the Chicago Cubs beat the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 at Wrigley Field on Friday.

It was the first home game for the Cubs since All-Star Ryne Sandberg died last Monday.

The club showed a video of Sandberg prior to the game. Former teammates Shawn Dunston, Jody Davis, and Rick Sutcliffe also honored their friend by carrying a base onto the field and placing it at second with Sandberg’s number 23 on it.

Chicago scored the only run in the game on a sacrifice fly by Ian Happ in the second inning.

The Cubs remain 1 game back behind Milwaukee in the NL Central Division. The Brewers beat the Nationals 16-9 on Friday.

Game 2 in the series with the Cubs and Orioles is Saturday afternoon.
