Byron Man’s Trial Begins for 2016 Deaths of Ex-Wife and Son

OREGON — Jury selection is complete in the trial of 43-year-old Duane Meyer, accused of killing his ex-wife, Margaret Meyer, 31, and their 3-year-old son, Amos, nearly 10 years ago. Eight women and four men were selected as jurors, with three women and one man named as alternates. Prosecutors claim Meyer started a fire at a home on Silverthorn Avenue in October 2016 that caused the deaths. He was charged in 2019 with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated arson, and one count of concealing a homicidal death. Opening statements are scheduled Tuesday morning at the Ogle County Courthouse in Oregon.
