CHICAGO — Darren Bailey is set for a rematch with Governor Pritzker. The former Illinois House member lost to Pritzker in the governor’s race in 2022. Pritzker didn’t face any primary opposition as he seeks a third term.
Voters across northern Illinois turned out in low numbers for the primary election, with preliminary reports showing 6.7% in Ogle County and 7% in Lee County. On the Democratic side, Juliana Stratton led the U.S. Senate primary to replace retiring Dick Durbin, while Don Tracy led the Republican field. A statewide non-binding referendum on a federal scholarship tax credit program passed with 61% support. Local measures included Lee County’s Dixon Park District approving the sale of more than 11,000 acres of property by 67.5%, Sublette Fire Protection District passing a 131.95% tax increase to fund round-the-clock ambulance staffing, and LaMoille CUSD 303 voters favoring deactivation of the high school 321-100.
The Hinckley Fire Protection District won approval of their tax rate increase. Incumbent Tony M. McCombie won the Republican primary for the 89th House District with 76.5%, and Liz Bishop secured the Republican nomination for the 76th District, setting up a November contest against incumbent Amy “Murri” Briel.
