MT CARROLL — Jackson Kradle’s family is taking legal action following his death last year in Carroll County. His parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court. The 18-year-old was found dead along Illinois Route 78 near Mount Carroll on July 28th 2024. Following a coroner’s inquest, his death was ruled a homicide. Former deputy Matthew Herpstreith and a former dispatcher were at the scene when the teen was discovered. Herpstreith has been charged in the teen’s death. The suit claims the pair was drunk when Herpstreith hit Kradle with his truck. It also claims Kradle was still alive when Herpstreith called the non-emergency line.
