ROCKFORD — A former Rockford police officer is pleading guilty to a domestic battery charge. Michael Rhein entered a guilty plea last week and was sentenced to six months in jail. The 28-year-old was arrested last month on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. Rhein was previously identified as the officer who fired three shots in the 2023 shooting death of Patrick Kirby. He was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.
