ROCHELLE — Voters across Illinois head to the polls Tuesday for the primary election ahead of the midterm cycle, which includes an open U.S. Senate seat following the retirement of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and several open congressional races. Statewide, voters will consider an advisory referendum on whether Illinois should participate in a federal program that uses private donations to fund academic needs for K through 12 students. In Lee County, voters will decide on a Dixon Park District proposal to sell nearly 12 acres of land, a nonbinding question on the deactivation of La Moille High School, and a 131.95 percent tax rate increase request for ambulance services in the Sublette Fire Protection District. In DeKalb County, voters in the Hinckley Community Fire Protection District will consider a 0.27 percent tax rate increase to support fire and emergency operations, while residents in Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb counties are also casting ballots in local races and referendums.
