Victim Identified in Fatal Somonauk House Fire

SOMONAUK – The Winnebago County Coroner Office identified a 63-year-old Somonauk woman who died following a residential fire that occurred Saturday morning. Jeanene Wasson passed away at a Rockford hospital Sunday evening after suffering from smoke inhalation during the blaze in the 200 block of South Depot Street. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 6:45 a.m. to find smoke coming from the home. The DeKalb County Sheriff Office reported that several small pets also died in the fire. Both the state fire marshal and local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
