Lawmakers Pushing For Chipped EBT Cards To Cut Down Fraud 

SPRINGFIELD –  State Democrats are suggesting a modernization of SNAP benefits to cut down on rampant fraud within the program.  Lawmakers say the majority of the fraud comes from people skimming magnetic strips on EBT cards and scanners.  Senator Mike Simmons, a Democrat from Chicago, cited California as an example.  He says fraud on the West Coast has been cut by more than 80-percent after switching to chipped EBT cards.
