Illinois Expands Intern to Hire Program for Civil Engineers

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Central Management Services and the Illinois Department of Transportation are expanding the state’s Intern to Hire Program to include civil engineering roles, offering paid internships that lead to full-time positions. The program is designed to address a nationwide engineering shortage while supporting major infrastructure investments through Rebuild Illinois and federal funding. Participants will work alongside IDOT’s 1,000 civil engineers, gaining hands-on experience and service credit toward state benefits as they transition into long-term careers in public service.
